Consider Baptism

Here are a few commonly asked questions about baptism:

Why should I be baptized?

  • To follow Christ′s example

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. – Mark 1:9

  • To follow Christ′s command

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. – Matthew 28:19

  • To publicly identify ourselves with Christ

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. – Romans 6:4

Do I need to be baptized to be saved?

  • No, you are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8-9)

There is nothing else you can do that will contribute to your salvation, including getting baptized. Baptism doesn’t save you. The water doesn’t wash anything away. It only demonstrates that you already believe and are saved.

What if I was baptized as an infant?

  • We invite you to consider being baptized as an adult.

At ICC, we don’t baptize infants. We only baptize those who have made a decision to believe in Christ’s death as the payment for their sin. Infant baptism typically emphasizes a parent’s commitment to raising their child in the church, but we focus on baptism as a conscious choice of the individual to identify with Christ. If you were baptized as a baby, we encourage you to be baptized by immersion as a believer.
